March 4, 2011 - Complaints Against Cat Breeders has been on line for close to 10 years now and it appears to me the complaints are the same excate story over and over again: Breeder will bend over backwards before $ money is given. Once the money is given to the breeder, its the last you are ever gonna see of this breeder #1. Buyer buys kitten it finds the kittys is sick #2. Buyer contacts breeder #3. Breeder has every excuse under the sun for the illness of the kitten Such as: 1. The buyer did it 2. My kittys have never been sick 3. Breeders intentionally avoids all communication with buyer. 4. Breeder uses their contract as a licence to steal. 5. Breeder minipulates their contract to always in their favor. So what is this all saying? #1. That the cats breeders listed on this site are all dishonest. #2. Breeders do not know how to conduct legal business transactions. #3. Breeders listed on this site do not stand behind the cats & kittens they sell. #4. Breeders do not want to be held responsible for any health issues Cat Breeder's Contract's are A License To Steal! Kitten Aggression

Dear John:

We recently brought a cat into our house. When we got him, he was five weeks old; he is now eight months old. We got the cat fixed when he was six months, as advised by our veterinarian. The cat has a very dominant personality and attitude. We are trying to make the cat a normal house cat, but this is very difficult, because the cat will strike out and bite and scratch members of the household, even when he is laying on our laps and we are petting him. For no reason, he wants to scratch and claw us almost like an attack. What can we do?-A.H.

Dear A.H.:

There are a few reasons a cat might do this. Sometimes it's a genetic predisposition, sometimes it's health, but in your case, I'm betting it's the age at which you bought the kitten.

Bringing a pup or kitten into a home at five weeks of age generally has its consequences. Both species need to spend more time than that with their mothers to learn things like exerting self-control, as in bite and/or claw inhibition. They also learn about hierarchy. Some will find themselves able to assert themselves over some littermates and not others, and all will learn about boundaries and consequences from over zealous interaction with their mothers. Most mothers are pretty tolerant, but they send the message, "You may win some, but you will lose some, so think before you act."

When people get the kitten or puppy after a mother has done her work, the pet is better equipped with the understanding that good manners never go out of style. Kittens that don't get this time and the lessons that go along with it outside of the aggressive behaviour can suffer from some neurotic behaviour as well: things like over-attachment to a single person, separation anxiety and fear of strangers. In cases where it is a multi-cat or dog household, there's a greater chance of aggression as well, also due to a lack of development in inter-species socialization skills.

Generally speaking, if it's a good breeder, they don't sell until the kittens are around 12 weeks of age. By a good breeder, I mean someone who is making sure the kittens are being well-socialized amongst their own and other species, including being handled by many people. This tends to the exception, rather than the rule with both dog and cat breeders - the eight-week mark is closer to an ideal. Anyone selling puppies or kittens at five weeks is more of a "greeder" then a breeder in my experience.

Technically speaking, a human can teach the same lessons mom and littermates might, but the average person doesn't take on a parenting role with their puppy or kitten. We often embrace more of the role of a permissive grandparent, and there is far more latitude as to behaviour that couldn't be tolerated on a day-to-day basis.

Behaviour is often well-meaning but incorrectly written off as, "She's a puppy/kitten!" Their real mothers would provide attitude adjustments as needed for inappropriate behaviour precisely because, "She's a puppy/kitten!" To do anything else will produce a pet that struggles with the realities of the world that exists beyond being a puppy or a kitten.

Kess & Willis cases
The recent cases causing the most consternation to no-kill proponents are probably those of KittyKind founder Marlene Kess, 56, reportedly prominent in New York City cat rescue for as long as 20 years, and Jim Willis, widely regarded as the unofficial poet laureate of animal rescue. Kess, a member of the Mayor’s Alliance for Animal Welfare, was known in New York City as a longtime resident of Greenwich Village, but owned a home in East Orange, New Jersey. On May 19, 2005, a raid by the New Jersey SPCA, Associated Humane Societies of New Jersey, and East Orange health department found 48 live cats and more than 200 dead cats on her premises. “Today she was fined $14,000, and sentenced to serve 21 days in jail plus 1,140 days of community service,” Associated Humane Societies executive director Roseanne Trezza told ANIMAL PEOPLE on August 22. “Now we have to go get 70 more cats, most of them sick,” Trezza added. The five-hour follow-up raid on Kess’ home actually netted 95 cats. “I think we are not done with Ms. Kess. There will be new charges here,” New Jersey SPCA president Stuart Rhodes told Brian T. Murray of the Newark Star-Ledger. Willis lost nine dogs, four cats, all of his work on a new book, and his home in a housefire on January 25, 2005––his birthday. Circa July 1, 2005 Willis became a houseguest of Steven and Erin Schmidt, of Forward Township, Pennsylvania, operators of Ferret Friends of Pittsburgh. The Ferret Friends web site identified Erin Schmidt as both a ferret breeder and a ferret rescuer. Animal Friends of Pittsburgh, itself a no-kill shelter, joined local police in raiding the Schmidt home on August 18. “Erin Schmidt, has been charged with running an illegal kennel on the property and will receive numerous humane citations,” reported Stacy Wolford of the Valley Independent. “House guest Jim Willis has been charged with dog law violations. Details regarding all charges against Schmidt and Willis are pending a complete investigation.” A Willis acquaintance, Wis-consin activist Eilene Ribbens Rohde, asserted in a widely distributed e-mail that, “It was Jim who called the authorities. He was not supposed to be there when they arrived. They came three hours early and he was still trying to help the animals as much as he could.” The courts may be sorting out the case for some time to come. Critics of no-kill sheltering also have cause to be embarrassed. PETA staff members Adria Joy Hinkle, 27, and Andrew Benjamin Cook, 24, were arrested on June 15, 2005 for allegedly killing 62 animals they took from North Carolina shelters under the pretext of finding homes for them, and then leaving the remains in dumpsters. John D. Elmer, 26, cofounder of a group called Pets Without Parents, was arrested on August 3, 2005, in Windsor, New York, for allegedly killing 35 animals whose remains were found at his home. Suspected euthanasia drugs and 50 live animals were also seized by police.

Ragdolls by Ransdell - I am certainly willing to update your complaints by saying that particular complaint/s was infact "resolved" and that would be placed on that particular complaint description, without a link referral. But the complaint descriptive statement on the page will remain but next to it saying, "resolved".. That can be done with each complaint. Also the links to the complaints on other sites will removed from my site.

Now about the defamation character statement. The law meaning is: the injuring of a person's good name or reputation. If your character was injuried by anything it was defamed by your "own buyers" dis-satisfaction and they shared that displeasure by posting bad complaints on the internet to share how they were treated by you. Please do not blame CACB.INFO for your actions in reality, better known as passing the buck. Take responsibility for your own actions and resolve your own issues. Blaming others is not a responsible way to go through life.

You can not have any complaints removed from CACB.INFO's site. The only way they can be updated is by having your past buyer's write to me & state this issues has been reloved. The buyer must state what was given to them to satisfy their complaint and the buyer must request the status updated to "resolved".

Please do not conact me directly, please do not send me anything as proof. That all must come from the buyers request to have your complaint "updated". Your buyer's are the only party that can update your complaints to "resolved", along with proof.

Helderberg Exotic Cats - I can see you are very angry about reading all the bad complaints about you online from your buyers. Venting your anger towards me or CACB.INFO will not solve your issues nor resolve your problems. You need to look at yourself and realize you are doing something wrong with running your commercial cattery business.

At least now you can feel the hurt, sadness and anger your buyer's felt when their cats died of FIP or other gravely health issues after paying large amounts of money for their kitty.

One customer of your said it plainly when he describedd "80 feet of cat cages full of cats along one wall". Cats are living animals and can not be cared for like that. You probably thought this way gonna be a winner for you to make a living off. You were wrong. My suggestion to you is get out of the live animal business, because all you have to do is read what your buyers are saying.

Now about the pet dealer inspection reports. You stated I had no right to have them. That is where you are very wrong. In our country that is the USA we do have the right to obtain what you are doing, that is why the USDA allows anyone to obtain them. And yes I will post all your reports online to share with potential buyers the why's, how's and when's of your commercial cattery business.

When a buyer comes to you to purchase a pet from you they have a right to know how they were raised, treated, cared for and the health of that pet. They also have the right to know if you have failed inspection reports that shows you are not a good cattery to purchase from. The consumer's have the right to know all this information before they fork over their hard earned money to get a kitten.

I also know you contacted my hosting provider because of your anger. You are the one who caused all these problems no one else. Stop blaming others for your troubles and start taking responsiblity for your actions and deeds & become a responsible, honest & trustworthy person.

We do not take off breeder or cattery names during a dispute. We will however do so only after the issues are resolved..

Dear Debbie, I have thought about your request about taking off Mrs Smith information. I came to a decision that her name will only be removed [not during] but only after this issue is truly solved. If Mrs Smith is trying to make it right with you, that means she is in the process of doing so.

I feel the issues needs total resolution with you first before her name is removed. Once this issue is resolved then her name will be taken off. At the same time I need documentation Mrs Smith is no longer against you at all. And has done right by you completely.

I also will be looking forward to posting your "Complete Story" on the site.

Regarding Zech she will not be taken oof your site until she:
1. Returns to me MY 2 kittens
2. Plus the money she owes me as per the court order and further money for Bailiffs warrants
3. And makes a public apology to me and the many people on the forum she has sold sick kitten too!
